The Attack Phase Of The Dukan Diet
In the Dukan Diet, there are four significant phases the dieter must go through in order to effectively utilize the diet. In the Attack Phase, or Phase one, the Dukan diet requires the dieter to consume primarily lean protein in all forms. While there is a list of over 70 proteins to choose from, there are certain categories that can help any dieter trying to figure out their Dukan diet menu. The first category that someone following the Dukan diet may choose from is seafood. All seafood is allowed on this diet, including popular seafood choices such as salmon, tilapia, shrimp, and lobster. All of these options can be enjoyed in unlimited portions, provided that they are not cooked in oil or butter. This may be difficult for some, especially if one is used to crab legs swimming in butter, but using lemon juice and spices is very complementary to seafood and can improve the taste greatly as well as add variety! Poultry is the next category of protein that a dieter on the Dukan diet can choose from freely. Chicken, turkey, and even game birds such as quail and pheasant are all fair game, as long as there is no fat or skin attached and there is no breading. (The no-breading rule applies for the seafood, as well!) So needless to say, fried chicken is not going to cut it on the Dukan diet menu. Boneless, skinless, chicken breasts are a great option, as are lean cuts of turkey deli meat. Meat such as beef, ham, and game such as venison are also encouraged on the Dukan diet. However, it is important that a very lean cut is used, so no marbling is allowed- and the rind on ham must be removed as well. In addition to cuts of meat, a dieter on the Dukan diet can enjoy livers and kidneys as well. Dairy and eggs are allowed and encouraged on the Dukan diet. It is imperative, however, that the forms of dairy used are low or nonfat, and contain no added sugars. Some great choices would include nonfat Greek yogurt, cottage cheese, and skim-milk. Eggs can be eaten in limited quantity- 7 a week and 4 a week if one has high cholesterol, however egg-whites can be eaten without any restrictions on the Dukan diet menu. If you are a vegetarian, you have options on the Dukan diet as well! Tofu, lentils, and soy proteins can be eaten as a replacement for meat-based proteins; however this diet may seem especially restrictive. But if one is creative, it is easy to survive the attack phase of the Dukan diet without eating meat. Vegans may have a hard time, however, as it would cut out the dairy portion as well. In addition to proteins, a dieter following the Dukan diet menu is required to add oat bran to their diets as well. This is an essential portion of the Attack Phase, and should not be skipped! After not eating any carbohydrates at all, some Dukan dieters can eat the oat bran plain, and actually enjoy their sole source of something besides pure protein.
